Maple Street Extension – Summerville, SC

Blythe Development Company is at the forefront of the Maple Street Extension project in Summerville, SC, a significant initiative that became the town’s largest funded project in 2023. Our dedicated estimating team’s efforts culminated in winning the bid for this project, a collaboration between the Town of Summerville, Dorchester County, and Michael Baker International, which began back in 2014.

This project, marked by a ceremonial groundbreaking, aims to drastically improve infrastructure over a 2.25-mile stretch. It focuses on enhancing motorist and pedestrian safety, mobility, and connectivity in the community. The current route, a busy two-way road passing a school, lumber mill, and rail crossing, suffers from heavy congestion and outdated intersections. Our work will significantly reduce traffic congestion by widening the roadway and adding turn lanes. Additionally, we will enhance safety by removing one of the county’s most dangerous intersections, creating a new road linking Parsons Road to N. Maple Street, thus bypassing the narrow Richardson Road for thousands of daily commuters.

Blythe Development’s scope of work encompasses:

  • Implementing traffic and erosion control measures,
  • Managing storm drain relocations and sanitary sewer relocations in collaboration with Dorchester County Water & Sewer,
  • Executing earthwork for new roadways and shoulders,
  • Constructing concrete curbs and medians, and handling all asphalt pavement work, including final grading for wedging,
  • Coordinating dry utility relocations with multiple service providers such as AT&T, Dominion Energy, Spectrum, Summerville CPW, SEGRA, and Dominion Natural Gas.

This project is not only a milestone for Summerville but also a testament to Blythe Development Company’s capability in managing and executing large-scale infrastructure improvements. For ongoing updates and showcasing of the project, the Town of Summerville maintains a dedicated page at Summerville’s Official Website.
